In northeastern Oregon, Pendleton has a huge yearly rodeo known as the Pendleton Round-Up. About 50,000 people visit Pendleton yearly for the rodeo, which has been going on at the Pendleton Round-Up Stadium during the second week of September since 1910. The Pendleton Round-Up takes pride in professional Rodeo Cowboys Association (PRCA) membership. In 2008, the Pendleton Round-Up was honored by being inducted into the ProRodeo Hall of Fame in Colorado Springs.

On July 29, 1910, the "Northwestern Frontier Exhibition Association" was established as the non-profit parent organization of the Round-Up. Local ranchers, led by Herman Rosenberg, were largely responsible for the development of the rodeo. Seven times (2003, 2010, 2015-2010), the Pendleton Round-Up has been named the PRCA Large Outdoor Rodeo of the Year.

The National Cowgirl Museum and Hall of Fame features an image taken by Walter S. Bowman in 1915 showing Bonnie McCarroll being tossed from a horse at the Pendleton Round-Up. Bonnie McCarroll (1897-1929), a bronc rider, tragically lost her life in a rodeo accident in Pendleton. Due to her passing, the PRCA, created in 1936, initially only planned events for women.
