The Professional Golfers' Association of America annually puts on the PGA Championship. Outside of the U.S., it is also known as the US PGA Championship or the USPGA. There are four major golf championships for men, and this is one of them.

Midway through August, it was contested on the third weekend before Labor Day. It was the last major of the men's golf season. Starting in 2019, the event was contested the weekend before Memorial Day in May, the season's second major after the Masters event in April.

The PGA, like the other majors, confers perks that boost professional stability to the winner. PGA champions are automatically invited to the Masters Tournament, U.S. Open, Open Championship, and The Players Championship for five years and are eligible for the PGA Championship for life.

Several locations have hosted the PGA Championship. The event has often been played at a limited set of renowned courses recently, but some original locations still need to be remembered.

Originally scheduled for the weekend preceding Memorial Day in April, the PGA Championship instead took place in May starting in 2019, as previously stated before the 2017 event. At the same time, the PGA Tour announced that the Players Championship, which had been moved from March to May in 2007, would be brought back to March.

Reasons given by the PGA of America for the shift include golf in the Summer Olympics and colder weather, allowing host courses to have a greater selection of alternatives.
