Since 1987, WWE, the largest professional wrestling business in the world, has hosted an annual event known as Survivor Series. It is the second longest-running PPV event in history, after WWE's flagship event, WrestleMania, and is typically held in the week surrounding Thanksgiving in November. The event has been broadcast on traditional PPV since 1987, on WWE Network since 2014, and on Peacock since 2021.

Wrestlers from WWE's Raw and SmackDown brands and NXT's participation in 2019 compete for brand dominance at events from 2016 through 2021. Each brand's champion competed in non-title fights against one another at Survivor Series. WWE's first main roster event to include the match was "Survivor Series: WarGames" in 2022 after the brand supremacy premise was scrapped and the event was renamed.

Triple H, a WWE official, revealed on September 19, 2022, that the upcoming Survivor Series would not adhere to the brand supremacy premise. He also revealed that the event would feature the first-ever WarGames match at a WWE main roster show, including separate matchups for men and women. The 2022 competition, now called Survivor Series: WarGames, was the first time the competition was held on a Saturday.
