Frances Ann Lebowitz (October 27, 1950) is an American author, public speaker, and actress. She is well-known for her sarcastic social commentary on American culture filtered through her New York City sensibility and for her interactions with prominent New York art scene players during the 1970s and 1980s.

Following the publication of her books Metropolitan Life (1978) and Social Studies (1981), which were subsequently compiled as The Fran Lebowitz Reader in 1994, Lebowitz became well-known worldwide. Two projects headed by Martin Scorsese—the HBO documentary Public Speaking (2010) and the Netflix docu-series Pretend It's a City (2021)—have included her.

HBO premiered Public Speaking, Martin Scorsese's documentary about her, including interviews and videos from speaking appearances, on November 22, 2010. Lebowitz also appeared as a judge in the 2013 Scorsese film The Wolf of Wall Street. She once more worked with Scorsese on the 2021 Netflix series Pretend It's a City, in which Scorsese interviews her about New York City and other subjects.
