Wheel of Fortune, which people sometimes just call "Wheel," is an American game show created by Merv Griffin. From January 1975 till now, the show has been running nonstop. After solving word puzzles reminiscent of Hangman, participants spin a huge carnival wheel to win cash and prizes. The show aired on September 19, 1983, and the current iteration runs in syndication every night. At first, Chuck Woolery and Susan Stafford presented the show on the network. In 1981, Woolery resigned, and Sajak took over. After Sajak quit the network version in January 1989, he continued to host the nightly Wheel and had his late-night chat show. 

After Bob Goen took over for Sajak when the show shifted to CBS, Rolf Benirschke took over throughout the day. The U.S. longest-running syndicated game show, Wheel of Fortune, has 7,000 episodes filmed and broadcast as of May 10, 2019. Among other accolades, TV Guide proclaimed it the "top-rated syndicated series" in 2008 and placed it at No. 2 on its list of the 60 best game shows in 2013.

Ryan Seacrest was confirmed to succeed Sajak in 2024 after the latter announced his retirement from the show in June 2023. The 41st season of the show began in September 2023. Despite Sajak's impending departure, Vanna White's continued involvement with the show has been officially announced.
