The stadium was first to open on September 11, 1970, with a construction cost of $2.3 million. Currently, Boise State University owns and operates the stadium. Sink Combs Dethlefs designed the architecture of the venue. The stadium has undergone some significant renovations and expansions in the year 1997, 2009, and 2012. The stadium serves home to the Boise State University Football Team along with Famous Idaho Potato Bowl (NCAA). It is popular for its stunning blue playing surface, which became famous as the " Blue Plastic Tundra" by Chris Berman of ESPN along with "The Blue" and " Smurf Turf."
