The theater opened for the general public on June 2, 1930, with a construction cost of $3.65 million. Buckhead Theater has a seating capacity of approximately 1,800 people. The venue has undergone some significant renovations in 1961, 1977, 1994, and 2008. The theatre reopened in 2010. Currently, the theater is under the ownership of Charles Loudermilk and is operated by Live Nation. Daniell and Beutell designed the architecture of the venue in Spanish baroque style.

The Buckhead Theatre serves primarily as a movie theater, but along with that, it has also played host to concerts and civic events of the Buckhead Symphony Orchestra.
