Kings of Leon is a rock band that started in 1999 in Nashville, Tennessee. Matthew Followill, a cousin of brothers Caleb, Nathan, and Jared, and brothers Jared and Nathan make up the band. Over the years, the band's sound has diversified and become more alternative rock-oriented, while its early work was a mashup of garage rock, blues, and Southern rock.

All three of Kings of Leon's albums from that year (2008) reached the highest position on the UK Albums Chart, and the band had nine songs that reached the top 40. In addition, the band members were nominated for two Brit Awards that year. Due to the Times, their third studio album peaked at number one. The group found popularity on American music charts with the September 2008 release of Only by the Night. On the Hot Modern Rock Tracks chart, the tracks "Sex on Fire," "Use Somebody," and "Notion" all reached the highest position.

With nine platinum certifications, the album was the best-selling album of 2008 in Australia and their first platinum-selling record in the US. On February 22, 2024, Kings of Leon revealed Can We Please Have Fun, their ninth studio album. Their debut album for LoveTap Records and Capitol Records is set for release on May 10, 2024. Simultaneously with the album's launch, the first song, "Mustang," was released.
