The Marias is an American indie-pop band from Los Angeles, California. The current lineup of the group consists of Maria Zardoya (lead singer), Josh Conway (drummer), Edward James (keyboards), and Jesse Perlman (guitar). According to Conway, his influences include The Strokes, D’Angelo, Radiohead, and Tame Impala. Zardoya cited Pedro Almodovar, Erykah Badu, Julieta Venegas, Carla Morrison, Billie Holiday, Nina Simone, Norah Jones, Selena as her musical influences.

Conway was not familiar with Zardoya’s Spanish roots, said herself. She further stated that The Marias was open to experimenting with all new styles that ultimately led them to so many Spanish tracks across their releases. The band released its album, Cinema, on June 25, 2021. The single from the album entitled “Hush” topped the Billboard Adult Alternative Airplay chart. It was also the band’s first chart-topping single.
