Twenty One Pilots is a musical collaboration from Columbus, Ohio. Tyler Joseph (singer), Nick Thomas (guitarist), and Chris Salih (drummer) established the group in 2009; Salih and Thomas both left in 2011. Joseph and drummer Josh Dun have been the band's only members since their departure.

Hit songs "Stressed Out" and "Ride" were part of the duo's fourth studio album, Blurryface (2015), which also made history by being the first album to have every track certified gold by the RIAA. As a result of "Heathens" reaching number one on the Billboard Hot 100 twice in a row, the band became the first alternative act ever to accomplish this feat.

Trench (2018) and Scaled and Icy (2021) were the pair's subsequent two studio albums. Clancy, their seventh album, is scheduled for release in 2024. They are also the artists with the third-most number-one singles on the Alternative singles list, with eleven of their own.

On February 15, 2024, a partial covering of red tape was applied to the cover art of Vessel, Blurryface, Trench, Scaled, and Icy for streaming services. Over the following days, a new logo was unveiled through billboards and banners in various areas globally, hinting at an upcoming new album, and some fans shared on social media that they had received letters from the band.
