U2 is an Irish rock band. The group's current lineup consists of Larry Mullen Jr., The Edge, Adam Clayton, and Bono. When the band first got together, its members were high school students at Mount Temple Comprehensive School who had just rudimentary musical skills. Only after four years did they finally get signed to Island Records and put out their first album, Boy (1980). Songs like "Sunday Bloody Sunday" and "Pride (In the Name of Love)" and albums like 1983's War cemented U2's status as a politically and socially engaged band.

After Guy Oseary's nine-year management tenure with U2, it was announced in October 2022 that the band was in talks to sign with Irving Azoff and his son Jeffrey of Full Stop Management. With $2.127 billion in income from 26.178 million tickets sold between 1980 and 2022, U2 was the second highest-grossing musical act, according to figures compiled by Pollstar.

In 2022, the group became only the fifth musical ensemble in history to win Kennedy Center Honors for their achievements in the performing arts. Songs of Surrender (2023), their most recent CD, features 40 reworked songs throughout their career. A limited concert engagement by U2 to inaugurate the Sphere at The Venetian Resort in the Las Vegas Valley in the fall of 2023 was revealed during a Super Bowl LVII television commercial.
