Willie Hugh Nelson (April 29, 1933) is an American singer, songwriter, guitarist, activist, and actor born in Abbott, Texas. In the late 1960s, as a backlash against the conventional constraints of the Nashville sound, he emerged as a leading character in the emerging progressive and outlaw country subgenres.

Shotgun Willie (1973), Red Headed Stranger (1975), and Stardust (1978) all did well critically and commercially, making Nelson one of the most well-known country music singers. Nelson has appeared in over 30 films and fought for the utilization of biofuels and the legalization of marijuana. Many famous novels have him listed as a co-author.

It was revealed in November 2014 that Nelson would host the reality show Inside Arlyn, filmed in the Arlyn Studio in Austin, Texas. The 2017's Lost in London, a live film starring Woody Harrelson, included Nelson in a self-starring role. The documentary The American Epic Sessions, directed by Bernard MacMahon and starring him and Merle Haggard, premiered in June of 2017.

Nelson received four nominations for the 65th Annual Grammy Awards for his albums The Willie Nelson Family and A Beautiful Time. He won two awards for Best Country Album and Best Country Solo Performance.

Mark Rothbaum revealed in December 2022 that he will release a five-part documentary about Willie Nelson at the 2023 Sundance Film Festival. He was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and celebrated his 90th birthday with two concerts at the Hollywood Bowl in 2023.
