The Chicago Blackhawks is a professional ice hockey team. The team's name was Black Hawks until 1986, and the players are often called the Hawks. Since beginning in 1926, the Chicago Blackhawks have competed in the National Hockey League (NHL), where they are now members of the Central Division of the Western Conference. Together with the Red Wings, the Habs, the Leafs, the Bruins, and the Rangers, they are one of the "Original Six" clubs in the NHL.

In the 1926–1927 season, the Black Hawks joined the New York Rangers and the Detroit Cougars (now the Detroit Red Wings) as new expansion teams. In Eddie Livingstone's hometown of Chicago, they faced instant opposition from the Chicago Cardinals.

A lottery was held for the 2023 NHL Entry Draft, and the Chicago Blackhawks came out on top, earning the first overall pick. Connor Bedard was selected first overall in the draft. After that, the Blackhawks made trades to bring in players with more experience, including Taylor Hall, Nick Foligno, and Corey Perry. The organization used the extra salary budget room to trade for Josh Bailey and a second-round selection in 2026 from the New York Islanders, who were short on salary cap space.

Connor Bedard, the first overall selection in the 2023 NHL Draft, has headlined the Chicago Blackhawks' 2024 preseason. In preseason games, Bedard has shown exceptional scoring ability and hockey IQ, meeting great expectations.
