The men's basketball team from the University of Maryland, known as the Maryland Terrapins, competes in Division I of the National Collegiate Athletic Association. In 2014, Maryland, a founding member of the ACC, decided to join the Big Ten Conference instead of the ACC. 

The Terrapins' most successful run came under the direction of Gary Williams, who coached from 1989 to 2011. Under Williams's watch, the program reached the Final Four in 2001 and 2002, and in 2002, they won the NCAA National Championship. Thirty NCAA tournament appearances and four conference titles are Maryland's to brag about. 

Until the 2022–23 season, the Terrapins had played in 100 seasons, with an overall record of 1,641–1,086. At the moment, Kevin Willard is coaching the Terrapins. Kevin Willard was hired as the eighth head coach in Maryland program history on March 21, 2022. Willard wasted no time acquiring Jahmir Young, a highly regarded transfer prospect from Charlotte, through the portal in preparation for the forthcoming season. 

Under Young's direction, the Terrapins went 20-11 and won the Hall of Fame Tip-Off. Maryland, which was placed eighth in the NCAA Tournament, upset West Virginia, which was seeded ninth in the first round.
