The Minnesota Lynx is a WNBA team from Minneapolis, Minnesota, U.S., that competes as a professional basketball club in the Western Conference. The 2011–2013–2015–2017 WNBA seasons were won by this squad. Glen Taylor, who also owns a controlling stake in the Minnesota Timberwolves, the NBA team that the Lynx compete against, founded the franchise before the 1999 season. Several notable players have called this franchise home, including Lindsay Whalen (a native Minnesotan), Maya Moore, Rebekkah Brunson, Sylvia Fowles, Seimone Augustus, and Katie Smith.

Twelve Lynx's twenty-one seasons in the WNBA have resulted in postseason action. After losing backup point guard Renee Montgomery to the Atlanta Dream in free agency and keeping an aging squad together, the Lynx fell well short of championship contention in 2018. Despite having All-Stars in Moore, Fowles, Augustus, and Brunson, the Lynx's 18-16 record was good enough for seventh place in the league. 

The Lynx did not secure a spot in the top two seeds for the first time in eight years. Another player who announced her retirement before the playoffs began was Lindsay Whalen. The Lynx's first-round elimination match in the playoffs was a matchup with their rivals, the Los Angeles Sparks. Whalen played in his last game for the team after they lost 75–68, breaking their streak of three straight Finals appearances. But in 2019 and 2020, Lynx players would be named WNBA Rookie of the Year.
