First held from May 8th to the 12th, 2013, BottleRock was a five-day extravaganza. Among the sixty acts that performed over three stages were Train, Jackson Browne, Primus, The Avett Brothers, Joan Jett, Cake, Jane's Addiction, The Flaming Lips, Kings of Leon, The Black Keys, Alabama Shakes, Ben Harper, and The Shins.

At the festival, forty different wines were showcased. Several merchants and employees claim that organizers failed to pay them after the event, even though the festival drew over 120,000 people and received mainly favorable reviews.

Creditors, including the City of Napa, Napa Valley Expo, many catering, security, and transportation businesses, a local chapter of the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees, and individuals, claim over $2.5 million in unpaid pay and services. The subsequent festival earnings were utilized to settle certain obligations to alleviate financial difficulties.
