The New Orleans Pelicans are a basketball club based in New Orleans, Louisiana. The team plays in the NBA and is a Western Conference Southwest Division member. The Pelicans began as the New Orleans Hornets in 2002. Later, the name was changed to the New Orleans/Oklahoma City Hornets, then to the present one.

The official uniform colors of the New Orleans Pelicans are gold, red, and navy blue. The team is delighted to have Pierre the Pelican as its official mascot.

On March 3, 2020, Williamson was awarded February's NBA Rookie of the Month. Following the suspension of the 2019–20 NBA season, the team was one of 22 teams assigned to the NBA Bubble to play the last eight regular-season matches.

The team ended the 2021–22 NBA season with a 36–46 record, good for ninth place in the Western Conference and an opportunity to enter the playoffs via the play-in round. The Pelicans' red "Statement" jersey was changed before the 2023–24 season, now incorporating the words "Crescent City" in white lettering with navy blue trim around navy blue numbers with white trim.

The New Orleans Pelicans have been one of the more interesting teams this season. When fit, Zion Williamson plays at a very high level. Brandon Ingram has also been critical to the Pelicans. But injuries have become a problem again, especially with Williamson. Even with these losses, New Orleans is still in the running for the playoffs and hopes to stay fit as they try to make a run. The Pelicans have a good team with a strong young core. They could be a scary team in the playoffs if they stay healthy.
