The Wake Forest Demon Deacons are Wake Forest University's American football team. The Demon Deacons play in the ACC's Atlantic Division and the Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). Dave Clawson leads the Demon Deacons on the gridiron as head coach at Allegacy Federal Credit Union Stadium.

The Deacons, the first football squad representing Wake Forest, was formed in 1888. W. C. Riddick and W. C. Dowd coached the squad. In the first-ever college football game in North Carolina, the squad defeated North Carolina to earn a perfect record of 1-0.

The second part of the 20th century was a rough time for Wake Forest football. With fewer undergraduates than all except Rice, Tulsa, and the three FBS United States service academies, the university ranks sixth-smallest in FBS.

The institution has the distinction of being the smallest member of a Power Five conference. Since the turn of the century, though, the Deacons have been competitive enough to reach ten bowl games in the first two decades of this century.

They lost the 2019 Pinstripe Bowl against Michigan State and ended the year with an 8-5 record. The 2020 season ended with a 4-5 record following a loss in the 2020 Duke's Mayo Bowl versus Wisconsin. After starting the season with an 8-0 record in 2021, they qualified for bowl games for the sixth consecutive year.
