The Washington Commanders is an American professional football team established in 1932. It has been playing their home games at FedExField since 1997. Their uniform color scheme includes white, black, gold, and burgundy. The team's official mascot is Major Tuddy, and Josh Harris owns them.

Jason Wright serves as president, and Martin Mayhew is the general manager. Ron Rivera is the current head coach of the team. They have gone to the playoffs only seven times since their previous Super Bowl win in 1991. But the team has won the NFC East four times. After two seasons as the Washington Football Team, the club changed its name to the Commanders in 2022. In the same year, in celebration of the 90th anniversary of the franchise, ten new players were added to the roster.

In 2022, the club relaunched as the Commanders and internal cultural shifts proceeded. Longtime cheerleaders were replaced with a coed performing group called the Command Force. Also, the school's fight song was renamed "Hail to the Commanders" to reflect the new identity. Previously known as the Washington Football Squad, the squad adopted a new name and jerseys in 2022, becoming known as the Commanders.

In the 2024 NFL Draft, the Commanders selected Jayden Daniels, QB, from LSU as the 2nd overall draft pick.

Though they did not qualify for the 2025 NFL postseason, the Washington Commanders improved significantly throughout the season. With rising confidence in his first entire season as the starter, Quarterback Sam Howell had a great year. While outstanding rookie running back Brian Robinson Jr. kept making plays, the Commanders strengthened their defense with a midseason trade for a seasoned cornerback to help shore up their secondary. Although linebacker Jamin Davis suffered a groin problem, injury-wise, he should recover entirely for next season. Having a strong basis in place, the Commanders want to expand on the development of this season for a more forceful push in 2026.
