The Winnipeg Jets are a famous American hockey team in the National Hockey League (NHL). True North Sports & Entertainment owns and operates the NHL club, which plays its home games at the Canada Life Centre in the Western Conference's Central Division.

Winnipeg Jets were established on June 25, 1997. The team was previously known as the Atlanta Thrashers. The Jets made their NHL debut in the 1999–2000 season. In May 2011, True North Sports & Entertainment purchased the club and moved it to Winnipeg. The new owner made the Jets the first NHL team to transfer. It was since the Hartford Whalers became the Carolina Hurricanes in 1997.

The primary logo is based on the RCAF's roundels and features the silhouette of a McDonnell Douglas CF-18 Hornet, which is a striking departure from the previous Jets' logos. The primary color scheme is blue and silver, and the insignias honor the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF), especially Winnipeg's 17 Wing.

The Thrashers spent 12 seasons in Atlanta, making the playoffs only once (2006–07) and failing to win a single postseason game. The team's lack of postseason success contributed to declining attendance in their last seasons.

In the 2020–21 season, the Winnipeg Jets earned their fourth successive playoff appearance. In the first round of the playoffs, they defeated the Edmonton Oilers in four straight games. They were, however, defeated by the Montreal Canadiens in four straight games in the second round.

After defeating the Calgary Flames 5-2 on April 4, 2024, the Jets secured their sixth playoff spot in the previous seven seasons and second in a row. In round one, they took on the Colorado Avalanche and were eliminated after five games. 

During the 2024 preseason, the Winnipeg Jets concentrated on strengthening their defensive play and fostering camaraderie among their attackers. Josh Morrissey grounds the defense while Mark Scheifele and Kyle Connor lead the attack. With Connor Hellebuyck still a major player in the net, the Jets have also been assessing their goaltending posture. 

Although the squad has shown flashes of great performance in preseason events, consistency stays a top priority as they prepare for the regular season. The Jets want to be competitive in a hardy Central Division.
