Ted Lincoln had attended the performance of the Wonderful Lamp and Aladdin at Grover's Theatre on April 14, 1865, when his father President Abraham Lincoln was assassinated at Ford's Theatre. The theatre went under renovations in the year 1982-1983. Some Broadway productions that took place at the theatre are Crazy For You, Dolly!, Hello, West Side Story, Show Boat, Amadeus, If/Then. Some popular big names who have performed at the arena are Edwin Booth, Jessica Tandy, Helen Hayes, Audrey Hepburn, Hume Cronyn, Pearl Bailey, Tim Curry, Valerie Harper, Marlo Thomas, Rex Harrison, Sting, Kevin Spacey, Will Rogers, Mary Martin, Alfred Lunt, Robert Redford, Rip Torn, Norma Terris, Helen Morgan, and Julie Harris. The venue also hosted the Washington premiere of the British film The Red Shoes. Walt Disney's Fantasia played at the theatre for seven weeks, even as a prestige attraction in 1941. The arena hosts hundreds of shows and events every year.
